A month from beginning a yearlong federal prison sentence, rapper
T.I. spoke to dozens of high school students, half serving juvenile sentences, in Atlanta. He told them to work hard and stay in school.
His appearance was part of a deal with the court that cut as much as 10 years from his sentence, a sentence that has drawn criticism for its leniency.
Since 1997, T.I., 28, has been jailed or arrested for running a crack cocaine distribution conviction, giving false names to police, skipping court dates, probation violations and illegal weapons charges.
